Summary: | Central Sumatra Basin is one of the oil and gas producing basins in Indonesia.

Surface geological mapping in Kotokampar XIII and surrounding, Kampar district,

Riau province, is expected to provide additional geological data in the basin. The

purpose of this study is to learn the geological of this area and about fractures

characteristic in bedrock are exposed in the research area. Geographically, the research

area is located at 100o 45 '40.5475' E – 100o 51 '36.2887' E and 0o 17 '5.2174''N -0o

Geomorphology unit of this area is divided into three units, Complex Hills

Unit, Denudasional Plain Unit, and Flood Plain Unit. Stratigraphy of the research area

is divided into six units lithostratigraphy and Alluvial Deposition Unit. The oldest rock

units in the study area is bedrock of the Central Sumatra Basin, Metamorphic Rocks

Unit and Sandstone ‘Greywacke’ Unit Carbon- Early Perm. Due to increased activity

of magmatism, in Middle Permian-Early Jurassic, this unit is intruded by Granite

Intrusion Unit. Then Sandstone Unit was deposited unconformably above the bedrock

and was deposited at alluvial fan and followed by Siltstone Unit, which was deposited

on the Eocene- Late Oligocene in the flood plain. After that, Sandstone-Conglomerate

Unit was deposited unconformably in Braided Stream on Early Miocene, and the last

unit is Alluvial Deposition Unit that erodes the rock underneath the entire unit formed

at Holocene and still continues until now.
Geological structures developing in the research area is the Silam Normal Fault

occurs in the Eocene-Late Oligocene, Bomban Normal Fault, Dusun Strike-Slip Fault,

Kwalan Strike-Slip Fault, and Pulaugadang Strike-Slip Fault. The main compressional
force trending northeast-southwest.

General orientation of shear zones and joint in the research area trending

Northeast-Southwest, whereas veins trending Northwest-Southeast. Based on the

quantitative analysis of the distribution of space and aperture using Power-law on

Metamorphic Rocks Unit and Greywacke Unit, found that the distribution of spacing

and aperture follow Power-law distributions and present the fractal condition or scaleinvariant.

While the average fracture density in the study area is 0.3% - 1.8% |
