Management is currently facing a dilemma because among the three products that provide revenue to the company only one that gives good profitability i.e. Hot Rolled Coils (HRC). Cold rolled coils (CRC) is one of the products that currently contribute less profitable for the company and even tended to contribute loss, and the other one is wire rods. Management is always worried to set high volume target for CRC since it will only result in an increasing of potential for loss. But if the volume is too small then it will result in an increasing of production cost due to rising of fixed costs. <br />

On the other hand, Hot Rolled Pickled and Oiled (HRPO) which is also the output of Cold Rolling Mill (CRM) is always providing a positive contribution so sales should be increased. An increasing ofHRPO volume will of course affect to the production capacity of CRM since the mill space of Continuous Pickling Line (CPL) will be occupied more to produce HRPO. Performance improvement of CRC needs to be done to get the opportunity to deliver the best profitability for the company by increasing the volume of HRPO but not sacrificing the CRC business. However, physical resources and human resources in CRM will only further burden the company if there is no meaningful revenue contributed to the company. <br />

The main objective of this thesis is how to improve the attractiveness of the business of CRC products by reducing production costs and improving quality performance to increase competitiveness in price and quality so that the sales and top management of the company have the flexibility to implement a strategy to compete in the market and of course with a higher confidence level. <br />

Major improvements to be done is to increase the efficiency and effectiveness of production activities by improving plant availability, performance rate, quality rate and establishing the right product mix so that it willincrease utilization of plant facilities and will also provide the best profitability. <br />

<br />
HRPO product, which is already providing benefits to the company should be further, increased its volume of production and sales to support more on business performance of the company. Quality improvement of the existing products should be pursued in order to strengthen its competitiveness as well as efforts to reach the market on products that have not been supplied or has not been made. <br />
