Geographically, Mount Sinabung is located at 03 ° 10 ' N and <br /> <br /> <br /> <br /> <br /> <br /> <br /> 98° 23 ' E with the volcano summit is about 2,460 meters above sea level, the highest <br /> <br /> <br /> <br /> <br /> <br /> <br /> peak in North Sumatra . This mountain has never been recorded erupted since 1600, <br /> <br /> <br /> <br /> <br /> <br /> <br /> but in 2010 suddenly Sinabung started spewing gas and volcanic ash. In GPS <br /> <br /> <br /> <br /> <br /> <br /> <br /> observation post, in the area of Mount Sinabung, it was recorded throughout 2011 <br /> <br /> <br /> <br /> <br /> <br /> <br /> and 2012 volcanic activity occurs and in the middle of 2013 there was an earthquake <br /> <br /> <br /> <br /> <br /> <br /> <br /> and volcanic tremors, followed by a volcanic eruption. <br /> <br /> <br /> <br /> <br /> <br /> <br /> In order to study the characteristics of volcanic activity of Mount Sinabung, GPS <br /> <br /> <br /> <br /> <br /> <br /> <br /> data from 2011 to 2013 has been observed. This GPS data then be processed and <br /> <br /> <br /> <br /> <br /> <br /> <br /> gave geodetic and geocentric coordinates also its standar deviation as results. <br /> <br /> <br /> <br /> <br /> <br /> <br /> Geocentric coordinates were transformed into the coordinate system topocentric to <br /> <br /> <br /> <br /> <br /> <br /> <br /> observed the value of the shift. The resultant of shifting data and calculated values <br /> <br /> <br /> <br /> <br /> <br /> <br /> are plotted in the form of a shift vector. Then shift velocity and strain were calculated <br /> <br /> <br /> <br /> <br /> <br /> <br /> at the point of observation posts around Mount Sinabung ahead of rising activity. <br /> <br /> <br /> <br /> <br /> <br /> <br /> Based on the results of observations made, the observation point of the strained <br /> <br /> <br /> <br /> <br /> <br /> <br /> volcanic activity of Mount Sinabung, which can be divided into two periods of time. <br /> <br /> <br /> <br /> <br /> <br /> <br /> The first period is January to April 2013 which resulted in compression strain.
