STUDY OF REDUCTION OF CHROMIUM (VI) CONCENTRATION IN ARTIFICIAL AQUIFER USING ZEOLITH, ORGANIC SOIL, AND IRON SLAG MATTER
This research used Kalium Bichromate solution (K2Cr2O7) as representration of Cr(VI) solution. The solution has concentration about 5 ppm and represent as constant variable. There are 4 materials to reduce Cr(VI), which are zeolith, organic soil, iron slag, and mixed from organic soil and iron slag....

experiment which are batch model (static) and reactor model (flowing). Empirical approach is used as method to analyze the phenomena and the experimental result.
Based on experiment results, zeolith can not reduce Cr(VI) concentration, therefore ion exchange and adsorption are not major process which initiate whole
Cr(VI) reduction process in solution. Under organic soil, Cr(VI) reduction capability depends on reductor supply, which is organic carbon. Iron slag has dependable reduction capability, but it was reached under quite long time, longer than organic soil. Known parameter related to Cr(VI) reduction is Eh, pH, TDS, water/solution flow in aquifer, and resident time of solution. Results of this study based on theoritical model can prove earlier theories and research, and the result of this experiment can deliver information about which material is best for reducing Cr(VI) concentration. |
