Summary: | Border on land is a limiting administrative area between regions which contain series of coordinate points that located on the earth's surface, it can be natural signs such as igir/mountain ridges/mountains (watershed), the median of the river and/or elements of artificial field poured in the form of maps. The river is one of the elements of nature that often used as the boundary between two areas. In Indonesia, the region bounded by the river using the median line as the boundary points both areas, but there are other methods for determining the border of the river is the Thalweg method. Median Line method uses the principle of the median point as the boundary points between two opposite regions, the midpoint obtained using mathematical principle. Thalweg method uses safety principal which is the deppest point is the most safety place for sailing, in Thalweg the deepest point on the river as the boundary points, therefore we need depth data of the river. To be able to use the Thalweg method in Indonesia, we should be studied advantages and disadvantages of these methods instead of the median method. Median line methods divides the basin area is relatively the same for both areas and easier to do because using mathematic principal to determining boundary line, when Thalweg method produces a more natural boundary for following the natural morphology of the river, using deepest point which corresponding with safety pricipal for sailing. Thalweg method is considered less effective and efficient because it requires bathymetry survey to obtain depth data while the median method does not require a bathymetry survey. |
