Description
Summary:Currently, the Mill area treats up 200,000 – 250,000 tonnes per day, which making it as one of the largest

concentrating circuits/facilities in the world. This plant infrastructure was also consider as the main vital

core of mining operational process in PTFI area which nearly 80 million tonnes of ore are processed per

year at average milling rates.

Wet moisture and oxygen regenerate conditions that make oxidation occurred faster. Finally, as a combining

consequence of the facility age and the environmental circumstance mentioned previously, PTFI’s existing

structural facilities have suffered from extensive corrosion problem over the years. Even more, those

corrosion issues have also been put as one of Mill Concentrating Division’s Safety Top Risk for the last 3

years (2014 – 2016). Bending, loss of thickness or crack is the worst effect caused by corrosion. The latest

worst experienced by PTFI related with corrosion impact was occurred this year (Aug, 2016), when a Mill

electrician was carrying out troubleshooting maintenance work on power cables located in an overhead

cable tray. The employee was fell approximately 9 meters onto the concrete floor below the work area after

the cable tray (which indicated was rusted/corroded) collapsed under the heavy load and the victim sustained

fatal injuries. Fatality accident is intolerable at all, it is priceless and become an ultimate lost for the

Company from any of all perspectives, and specifically in terms of PTFI Safety Standard compliance. Thus,

Corrosion Control (maintenance) works are significantly required to be conducted as appropriately.

The sequence plan implementation and the performance management system to measure the corrosion

control progress are finally become the two most critical and crucial issues to be caught up in regard with

the fighting of corrosion speed in this enormous area within the Mill Concentrating Plant itself. This research

is significantly require to measure the current performance of corrosion control works which have been

done previously and also for the works which currently still being completed using the Integrated

Performance Management System (IPMS), as a novelty hybrid PMS model which seeks to improve the

earlier research models with the implementation of Knowledge Based expert methodology system. This

approach can assist in identifying and prioritizing the key decisions that need to be actioned to overcome

the existing PMS shortcomings, so the main challenge for managing the performance of Company’s assets

in terms of its strategies (excellent safety performance, efficient cost, effective people and organization,

achieve production target and appropriate working environment) can be achieved as optimally.
