Equipment Criticality Rating (ECR) is a method that can be used to improve equipment reliability. ECR is performed to determine the critical level of each equipment and becomes consideration for the next step to determine the work order priority to be applied in each equipment on gas distribution system. “A” method has been developed for the determination of ECR, which is focused on financial, safety, and environmental aspects.

The ECR calculation obtained at 22 survei sites with a total of 966 equipments are as follows: there are 120 equipments is classified as "Ekstrem" (12%), there is no equipment classified as "Tinggi", 49 (5%) of equipments is "Sedang", 797 (83%) equipments is classified as "Rendah". However, the results obtained are less suitable because they are too much equipment classified as "Rendah". Therefore it is necessary to optimize the method to obtain more appropriate ECR results. The optimization is done by changing the parameters that have been set in each aspect to approach a new results that will be similar with “B” method that focused into government regulations, financial, production, safety, and maintenance aspects. ECR results after optimization are as follows: 147 (15%) equipments is classified as "Ekstrem", 238 (25%) of equipments classified as "Tinggi", 142 (15%) of equipments is classified as "Sedang" and 439 (45%) of equipments is classified as "Rendah".
