Summary:Increasing population in Sleman, Yogyakarta, and Bantul, has a logical consequence of increasing the amount of waste generation. Currently, waste from the three areas is transported and processed by Regional Piyungan Landfill located in Piyungan, Bantul regency, DIY. Land fill in TPA Piyungan uses open dumping system, which full condition. Material Recovery Facilities (MRF) is a place where separation activities, recyling, washing / cleaning, packaging, and delivery of recycling products. This MRF is designed to process 20% of garbage entering TPA Piyungan for 10 years (2019-2029), the amount of waste processed in 2029 is 108.05 ton/day and the total population is 2,976,057 people. Sorting garbage will be done manualy, disaggregated waste that still have selling value that is, paper/cardboard, metal and glass will be sold to recycling factory. Food waste and leaves will be composted by windrow composting, plastic bottle waste are chopped by crusher machine into plastic flakes, plastic bag wastes are chopped, then processed by pelleticizing machine into plastic ore, while the residue will be transported to TPA Piyungan landfill. Piyungan TPST buildings consist of unloading areas, wastes containers, main hangars (sorting areas, plastic recycling units and compost pre-treatment), composting hangars, post-treatment compost hangars (sifting areas, granulator, and compost maturation), warehouses and offices. Total land area of 8,416 m2, with total constructed cost of Rp 10,158,267,553.00.Waste processing at MRF is not only economically valuable, but also has an environmental impact as it reduces waste dumping in the landfill.
