Description
Summary:PT Freeport Indonesia (PTFI) is a mining company which operate in Mimika, Papua

province. This company market concentrates containing copper, gold, and silver to around

the world. Right now, PTFI has big project related mine closure phase at Lower Wanagon

area. This project is very important for the company as a compliance commitment with

Government of Indonesia regulation. Project started since 2011 and will be completed in

2023. Objective of this project is to stabilize the overburden material through re-sloping

process. Total earthwork volume of this project is approximately 260 Million tons.

Company expected this project must completed on schedule to avoid additional cost in the

future.

Until 2017, achievement of this project is still 35.5% from the completion target due to

production rate is low. In this project, production rate is influenced by the mining processes

which consist of drilling, blasting, loading, and hauling. This final project will focus to

identifies source of bottleneck in the mining processes and propose alternative solutions in

order to increase production rate.

Bottleneck Identification Model (BMI) that proposed by Kahraman in his dissertation on

2015 is used as a framework. This model is compare all mining equipment capacity and

actual process rate to identify the bottleneck. This final project found that drilling process

utilization is source of bottleneck. Top four standby reason which become main contributor

in poor drill utilization are waiting area, shift change, no operator, and up from repair.

These standby reason contributes 85.4% of total standby time. Proposed alternative

solution such as improvement in shift change cycle, create integrated mine plan, change

communication procedure are developed to eliminate or reduce standby time duration.

Improvement in drill utilization give significant impact to increase 53.6% of drilling

production rate. Ramping up scenario that proposed in this final project can be used by

Company's management in order to achieve the completion target in 2023. The

implementation process should planned and controlled. Therefore, responsibility persons,

timeline, monitoring tools, and evaluation shall determine prior execution.
