ABSTRACT

The animation industry is one of the fastest growing industries in the world. With a market

worth 12.01 billion dollars in 2017, which is expected to increase 11.9% in 2022 to reach 21.05

billion dollars. The potential of this animation industry can also become opportunity to

Indonesia as a developing country. Indonesia, which has a large population and has a variety of

cultures is very potential to develop animation industry. Of course, this potential must be

utilized by the animation industry players in Indonesia. One of the major problem in Indonesia

animation industry is the lack of information within actors which caused the business model is

lacking this industry. The problem that occurred also how actors in this network using rigid

system for the collaboration. The rigid system in collaboration will hamper the idea and

innovation itself. These problems can be solved by changing how the network involved into

business model and business model innovation so the collaboration can generate more values

for actors in animation industry.

Therefore, this research is conducted to give recommendations in the business model to the

actors/firm and analyze the network characteristic, business model, business model innovation,

and value outcome in animation industry network. Conceptual model used in this research is

using four dimensions, which are; network, business model, business model innovation, and

value. This research is done by qualitative method by applying interview, observation, and

secondary data. Three types of network are used as a case study, which are; vertical value net,

horizontal value net, and multidimensional value net with case study of Trans TV (vertical value

net), Cimahi Creative Association (horizontal value net), and Elex Media (multidimensional

value net). The data is being compared with each network using cross-case analysis method

using table.

In this research, Trans TV as vertical network and Elex Media as multidimensional network are

using the same agreement control in the network and business model so the business model

innovation is determined mostly by focal firm. As horizontal network, CCA has less control in

their network, their business model innovation determined by focal actors and initiative

members that affect the business model innovation more appropriate to all members. The result

of this research shown that the network condition, business model, and business model

innovation affected the value outcome. Value outcome may different with different condition of

the network, business model, and the business model innovation.
