Summary:Leaf sections of the coffee arabusta plant (Coffea arabusta) had been used as a model to study the effect of medium and growth regulators in vitro on embryoid formation and development. For callus formation, explant were planted on Murashige and Skoog\'s medium. Addition of various combi - nations and concentrations of growth regulators 2,4-di - chlorophenoxy acetic acid (2,4-D) and kinetin were necessary for callus induction. The callus formed was maintained in Gamborg liquid medium with 2,4-D. The results obtained showed the media were suitable for the formation of embryogenic cells which subsequently developed into globular-shaped, heart-shaped, torpedo-shaped and cotyledon-shaped embryos. The embryos developed into complete plantlets with stems, little green colored leaves and primary roots on Gamborg agar medium with the addition of 0,5% sucrose and 2,4-D.
