The next Contract of Work was signed in 1991 for the second 30-year period. At present, <br /> <br /> <br /> mining operations are carried out with two methods: Open Pit (surface mine) and underground <br /> <br /> <br /> mines. Grasberg is the only one open pit in the district, which was discovered in 1988 and began <br /> <br /> <br /> to mine in 1990. If Plan-17Q2R3 achieved, Grasberg depletion is at the end of 2018. <br /> <br /> <br /> Grasberg Long Range Planning Section leads the updating metal forecasts quarterly, despite <br /> <br /> <br /> of taking care the Grasberg panning itself. In recent years, the completion of the work is quite <br /> <br /> <br /> often over time. The head of the planning team tried to analyze this problem and sought to improve <br /> <br /> <br /> the forecasting performance by using both qualitative and quantitative approaches. The qualitative <br /> <br /> <br /> approach includes detailed observation of the planning process to find out the constraints ever, <br /> <br /> <br /> followed by a literature study to define effective and efficient improvement methods. At the stage <br /> <br /> <br /> of problem formulation, a method of thinking in the Theory of Constituency called the Current <br /> <br /> <br /> Reality Tree (CRT) is used to understand the causes and effects of a series of problems in order <br /> <br /> <br /> to formulate the root cause, further designing the system improvements. <br /> <br /> <br /> The main problems faced are time constraints, manual work system, and found disintegrated <br /> <br /> <br /> mine-mill model. Through a series of meetings, the team decided to create an alternative planning <br /> <br /> <br /> system called Mine Planning Interactive (MPI). This system can expedite the planning simulation <br /> <br /> <br /> from more than four hours or even one day to become less than one hour per one scenario. <br /> <br /> <br /> A quantitative approach was used to verify the MPI performance. With two cases have been <br /> <br /> <br /> run, variances of the result was estimated about three to five percent. Management has accepted <br /> <br /> <br /> to use MPI to run multiple cases study if any, and to use it side by side with the current <br /> <br /> <br /> conventional. However, this system has not yet perfect. There is still chance to improve it, for <br /> <br /> <br /> instance it needs to integrate the equipment hour’s calculation also, especially the truck hour’s <br /> <br /> <br /> calculation. text |
