STUDY ON DYNAMICS OF NUTRITION AVAILABILITY IN SOIL OF BROWN RICE (Oryza sativa L. var. Aek Sibundong) CULTIVATION WITH ORGANIC SYSTEM OF RICE INTENSIFICATION (SRI) METHOD AND DRIP IRRIGATION SYSTEM IN POLYBAG

However, brown rice relatively costs more than

the common white rice. Increase of production can lower this cost and improve

customer buying power. Combination of organic system of rice intensification

(SRI) and drip irrigation system have been proven able to increase rice production.

Knowledge on nutrient dynamics (Nitrogen, Phosphorus, and Potassium) in

growing medium is essential for a precision production capability. Goals of the

research are the following: to determine the dynamics of total N, available &

potential P, available & potential K, as well as organic C in different growing

mediums at different growth stages of Aek Sibundong paddy variety. Determination

of nutrient content in the plant is also carried out. Research is carried out with

Randomized Block Design with different growing medium treatments, including

T1K0P0: soil (control), T1K0P1: NPK fertilizer-added soil, T1K1P0: compost

added soil (1:1 w/w), and T1K1P1: NPK fertilizer and compost (1:1 w/w)-added

soil. Cultivation is carried out in polybags with organic SRI method and drip

irrigation. Samples are obtained as composites for every treatment in the nutrient

content tests (growing medium and plants). Results of soil tests are as follows (in

order of days after planting: 0, 35, 80, 120 DAP): (a) total N of growing medium

(in %), T1K0P0: 0,18, 0,15, 0,15, 0,14; T1K0P1: 0,18, 0,14, 0,15, 0,14; T1K1P0:

0,71, 0,59, 0,61, 0,54; T1K1P1: 0,71, 0,56, 0,67, 0,58; (b) available P of growing

medium (in ppm), T1K0P0: 21,4, 42,7, 33,9, 36,1; T1K0P1: 21,4, 41,5, 44,1, 49,5;

T1K1P0: 352,7, 283,9, 281,9, 168,3; T1K1P1: 352,7, 307,3, 416,6, 184,8; (c)

available K of growing medium (in ppm), T1K0P0: 183,6, 343,3, 313,6, 318,2;

T1K0P1: 183,6, 321,4, 280, 314; T1K1P0: 2768, 2071,4, 2205,5, 1750,7; T1K1P1:

2768, 2010,9, 2383,9, 1880,2; (d) organic C of growing medium (in %), T1K0P0:

1,79, 1,84, 1,78, 1,81; T1K0P1: 1,79, 1,78, 1,84, 1,72; T1K1P0: 8,97, 7,55, 7,64,

6,92, T1K1P1: 8,97, 7,47, 8,22, 7,98. Results showed absorption of nutrient on

compost-added soil (T1K1P0) is almost the same with compost & NPK-added soil

(T1K1P1), which indicates that more nutrient availability does not give better

absorption and productivity. text
