Summary: | Durian peel and cocoa pod are agricultural waste that contain lignocellulose so they can be used to produce bioethanol. Delignification process can be done to optimalize the production of bioethanol. Delignification can degradates lignin then cellulose and hemicellulose can be accessed and hidrolized more easily. The purpose of this research is to produce bioethanol from durian peel and cocoa pod using three methods of delignification : biologically, chemically, and physically. Biological method was done by using Marasmiellus palmivorus and Pleurotus ostreatus that grown on biomass for 15 days. Acid (H2SO4 1%; 5%; 10%) 1:10 (w/v) and autoclave (1210C, 15 psi) were used for chemical delignification. And for physical delignification aquadest 1:10 (w/v) and autoclave (1210C, 15 psi) were used. Furthermore, saccharification was performed using cellulase (18 hours in 400C, pH 5) and fermentation was done using Saccharomyces cerevisiae for 6 days anaerobically. The result shows that biological, chemical (H2SO4 1%; 5%; 10%) and physical delignification method reduced 39,44%; 10,09%; 27,66%; 74,02%; 5,79% lignin in durian peel and 41,61%; 18,39%; 38,12%; 58,39%; 10,34% in cocoa pod. Biological, chemical (H2SO4 10%) and physical delignification can produce 36,42 mL; 47,08 mL; 13,08 mL ethanol per kilogram durian peel and produce 34,67 mL; 51,58 mL; dan 13 mL ethanol per kilogram cocoa pod. Therefore based on research ethanol can be produced from durian peel and cocoa pod with the highest lignin reduction and highest ethanol production were obtained from chemical delignification (H2SO4 10%). |
