Summary: | One of technical problem on the Hercules Feeder at PLN Karawang area is lightning disturbances. The high lightning density (5.5 stroke / km2 / year) in Jatiluhur Area caused lightning disturbanceand can be one of the factors caused trip of BBK and CLN recloser frequently. This lightning disturbance will cause more overvoltage on the distribution line, this disturbance can be either direct strike and indirect strike. In this research will be installed of new arrester with new innovation technology that is Multi Chamber Arrester (MCA) that used air gap and air pressure in the chamber as its technology. The MCA has a function to protect overhead lines from lightning, especially 20 kV medium voltage. The MCA protection system will be tested by rocket triggered lightning, the rocket platform is 81 meters from the Hercules Feeder in PLN Karawang Area. Calculation and analysis due to indirect strike will be done in this research by using Rusck method. The results of the calculation and analysis shows the performance of MCA capable to stop the peak current due to lightning induction current up to 16 kA and the comparison of MCA performance result has done at PLN Serpong Area and shows the MCA performance can reduce 36% line fault of Ruko Feeder after two years MCA installed. |
