Description
Summary:A high level of iron and manganese containment of groundwater is aesthetically unacceptable. Mordenite has been proven effective by numerous researches to be able to remove excessive iron and manganese in the water. This research is aimed to examine the performance of a modified natural zeolite in a fixed bed reactor. Mordenite modification from the natural zeolite was done chemically by using NH4Cl. Optimum detention time was determined in a batch system. Compared to the use of batch system, Iron removal efficiency is 16.8% lower, while Manganese removal efficiency is 4% higher in fixed bed reactor. Aeration was added as a pre treatment to examine the work load of the fixed bed reactor with and without aeration. Aeration lower the reactor’s work load by 76% and is able to extend the living period of the mordenite by 5 times.
