Mordenite has been proven effective by numerous researches to be able to remove excessive iron and manganese in the water. This research is aimed to examine the performance of a modified natural zeolite in a fixed bed reactor. Mordenite modification from the natural zeolite was done chemically by using NH4Cl. Optimum detention time was determined in a batch system. Compared to the use of batch system, Iron removal efficiency is 16.8% lower, while Manganese removal efficiency is 4% higher in fixed bed reactor. Aeration was added as a pre treatment to examine the work load of the fixed bed reactor with and without aeration. Aeration lower the reactor’s work load by 76% and is able to extend the living period of the mordenite by 5 times. text |
