This papaya seeds decoction has been used empirically by Pinrang <br /> <br /> Regency as a blood-lowering medication. α-amylase and α-glucosidase have been recognized as <br /> <br /> theurapeutic targets for reduction of postpradial hyperglycemia in diabetes mellitus. This research <br /> <br /> was conducted to know the potency of ethanol extract, water extract, and papaya seeds fraction <br /> <br /> as α-amylase and α-glucosidase inhibitor. Research begins with the characterization and screening <br /> <br /> of phytochemical of the crude drugs. The crude drugs is extracted by reflux method with ethanol <br /> <br /> and water solvent. The extract was characterized and then monitored chromatogram pattern <br /> <br /> using Thin Layer Chromatography (TLC). Extract that have a stronger potencial is fractionated use <br /> <br /> the Liquid-Liquid Extraction (LLE) method using n-hexane, ethyl acetate, and water as an <br /> <br /> extractant. The results showed that papaya seeds water extract has a strong activity as an α- <br /> <br /> amylase inhibitor while ethanol extract has aweak activity as an α-amylase inhibitor. Water <br /> <br /> extract and ethanol extract have weak activity as α-glucosidase inhibitor. The water fraction and <br /> <br /> ethyl acetate fraction obtained from the fractionation of water extracts exhibit similar strength of <br /> <br /> activity to the α-amylase, and both fraction have weak activity as α-glucosidase inhibitor. text |
