DROUGHT STUDY USING STANDARDIZED PRECIPITATION INDEX (SPI) AND PALMER DROUGHT SEVERITY INDEX (PDSI) FOR AGRICULTURE CASE STUDY: RICE PRODUCTION IN DISTRICT CILACAP

Drought index that often used is Palmer Drought Severity Index (PDSI) and Standardized Precipitation Index (SPI). PDSI which uses water balance concept is often used for the analysis of agro-climatology whereas SPI uses only rainfall data and often used for moisture analysis.
<br...

Description
Summary:Drought index that often used is Palmer Drought Severity Index (PDSI) and Standardized Precipitation Index (SPI). PDSI which uses water balance concept is often used for the analysis of agro-climatology whereas SPI uses only rainfall data and often used for moisture analysis.

Cilacap area which most of its territory is an agricultural area having the highest vulnerability to drought disaster in Central Java. Cilacap is also the largest rice producer in the province of Central Java. PDSI and SPI studied its use to see the connection with the production of rice in Cilacap.

Results from this study indicate that the PDSI shows the relationship with rice production. PDSI also showed more frequency of droughts in Cilacap. PDSI drought intensity with a minimum duration of 3-month drought successively shows the relationship with anomalous rice production.
