Description
Summary:Magna Padma is a brand from Bandung which engaged in craft since May 2015. The

brand uses traditional Indonesia’s motifs as inspiration for contemporary design

motifs that are applied manually to fashion accessories products such as bags and

wallets. Based on the financial statements of Magna Padma since its inception, the

brand’s profit has decreased continuously. From the consumer data also known that

age range of women who are interested to buy Magna Padma’s product is 40 years

and over, while Magna Padma itself targeting the aged 18 to 30 years. Therefore,

researcher wants to know why it happens, and how to solve it from the product

development view based on green lifestyle trend.

Research begins by analyzing the external and internal environment. The method

used is qualitative and STP for external analysis and BMC for internal analysis. The

analysis data are combined to perform SWOT analysis. From the SWOT analysis can

be concluded that the weakness of Magna Padma lies in highly production cost and

lack of innovation. The research focuses on improving the competence of the

product, so it is proposed about new product development plan based on the concept

of design for environment (DFE).

The results show that Magna Padma must change the choice of materials and

maximize the effectiveness of the design in order to suppress the price of production.

The selected material and production process must also refer to an environmentally

friendly basis. By implementing the concept of environmental friendly any Magna

Padma can make new innovations for its products.
