WALKING ACTIVITIES STUDY AT KALIMAS RIVERSIDE

Kalimas Riverside and the surrounding area was a historic river, which passed by Kalimas Riverside from south to north Surabaya. Kalimas Riverside had a big <br /> <br /> <br /> <br /> <br /> <br /> influence as trading path since 14 until 19 century. Trade and commerce activities became a daily commodity for people, which affect the rise of urban settlement <br /> <br /> <br /> <br /> <br /> <br /> and commerce at Kalimas Riverside. At that time, Surabaya's growth oriented with people existence in Kalimas Riverside. In realty, Kalimas Riverside and <br /> <br /> <br /> <br /> <br /> <br /> surrounding run into transformation and vitality decrease. Walking activities approach considered maximizing and connecting riverside space, which now <br /> <br /> <br /> <br /> <br /> <br /> separate even though half of it became a riverside park. <br /> <br /> <br /> <br /> <br /> <br /> The research aims to review and link up network system, movement and activities through walking activities approach that could restore historic and riverside <br /> <br /> <br /> <br /> <br /> <br /> potency. Questionnaire result used to understand people perception and preferences related to movement and walking activities, while Space Syntax theory (using DepthMapX) used to analyze walking network system. <br /> <br /> <br /> <br /> <br /> <br /> Questionnaire result, Space Syntax simulation and existing physical condition compare each other to find the relation of network system, movement and destination related to walking activities in research area. <br /> <br /> <br /> <br /> <br /> <br /> The result shows that most of people less interested to visit Kalimas Riverside. Most influence variable in term of walking activities based on research is destination and activities.
