Description
Summary:Customer demand (product mix and volume) changes rapidly. It causes bussiness environment to be dynamic . To cope with this condition, it requires a layout with

high flexibility and adaptability. Non-traditional layout can meet this requirement. Several researchs about non-traditional layout focus on static performance criteria, i.e. minimize the expected of total material handling cost. To evaluate the performance of non-traditional layout, one need a comprehensive performance - involving static and dynamic (flowtime, machine utilization, transportation time, and WIP) performances.

This research deals with performance evaluation for two kinds of non-traditional layout, i.e fractal layout and distributed layout. This evaluation involves two stages.

In the first stage, static performance (the expected of total material handling cost) is used to design fractal and distributed layouts. In second stage, dynamic

performance is applied and developed a simulation model for a layout configuration designed in the first stage. Performance evaluation for fractal layout and distributed layout with simulation is done for several scenarios of demand (product mix and routing fluctuation). In conclusion, simulation results show that performance of fractal layout is better than distributed layout to face bussiness environment with

product mix and routing fluctuation.
