Description
Summary:Data from Kemenkes RI in 2013 stated that 37,1% pregnant women in Indonesia suffer from anemia.

Anemia in pregnancy is usually caused by iron deficiency and could increase many health risks, mainly for

the fetus. The Indonesian government attempt to reduce anemia in pregnancy is by giving out iron

supplementation tablets every day during the pregnancy. However, patient’s adherence is affected by

many factors such as health system factor, socioeconomic, patient-related, condition-related, and

medication-related factors. The purposes of this study are to determine pregnant women’s adherence to

iron supplementation and factors affecting it and to determine the correlation between adherence and

occurrence of clinical manifestation of anemia. This study used observational cross-sectional study with

concurrent data. Data from 105 subjects were taken from direct interview and from Mother and Baby

book. Patient’s adherence was determined using Morisky-8 questionnaire. The result showed 76 patients

(72.38%) have low adherence to therapy. The factors affecting adherence is knowledge (p = 0,021; r =

0,226) about therapy and 44 pregnant women (37,14%) have good knowledge about that. There is also

correlation between patient’s adherence and occurrence of clinical manifestations of anemia (p = 0,026;

r = -0,217). Hopefully this study would be a supporting study to educate women in general, for pregnant

women and women who are preparing for pregnancy.
