Description
Summary:Hepatitis or inflammation of the liver, is an inflammation of the liver due to exposure to toxic

substances. Based on the results of the Basic Health Research (RISKESDAS) in 2014, liver damage due

to viral infections (acute hepatitis) has increased since 2007 and 2013, and there have been several

cases of hepatitis A outbreak in several cities in Indonesia. In addition, in 2016, known cases of TB

reached 360,585 patients (0.14%). Side effects of anti-tuberculosis drugs (isoniazid and rifampicin)

were the cause of 58% of cases of drug-induced liver damage (DILI). This study aims to determine the

effectiveness of a combination of propolis and turmeric extract in preventing liver damage due to

induced isoniazid and rifampicin. Test animals in the form of male Wistar rats were weighed and

divided randomly into six groups. Rats induced intraperitoneally (i.p) using Isoniazid-Rifampicin

mixture for 14 days. On days 0, 7, and 14 blood was taken. Serum is separated from the blood

component using micropipets to analyze alanine aminotransferase (ALT) levels, aspartate

aminotransferase (AST), alkaline phosphatase, and total bilirubin. The results showed that propolis

(EEP) ethanol extract 100 mg / Kg BB, turmeric ethanol extract (EEK) 100 mg / Kg BB, and a combination

of 100 mg / Kg BB extract had hepatoprotective activity against the use of isoniazid and rifampicin in

male wistar rats, marked with decreased levels of AST, ALT, and ALP in the blood. The extract

combination has better hepatoprotective activity than silimarin and is synergistic to single extracts.
