Summary: | Simethicone is activate agent contained in ulcer drugs and works as an anti-foaming agent. In Indonesian

Pharmacopoeia, the determination of simethicone is done by extracting simethicone using toluene which

then measured by FTIR. This method has a problem that is the presence of matrix effect. In this study,

paraffin is used as the internal standard in the measuring of simethicone using FTIR. The study was

carried out by extracting simethicone from a solid ulcer drug samples and paraffin using diethyl ether.

The organic phase was then evaporated to get the mixture of simethicone and paraffin. This mixture was

measured using FTIR with KBr pellet method. Quantitative analysis was done by comparing peaks in

1377 cmˉ1 and 1458 cmˉ1 wave numbers. The results show linearity in the range between 0,1–0,25 grams

per 2 grams of solid sample. Based on the results above, the recommended method of analysis is 0,2

grams paraffin, simethicone in the range between 0,1–0,25 grams, solid blanko, 20 mL NaOH 1 M to

separator funnel and extracted with 25 mL diethyl ether. |
