Despite its planting area’s growth, red onion has its own problems. One of the most crucial problem faced by red onion farmer across Indonesia is red onion’s pests. Pests attack could decrease the harvest up to 40-80% (Kardinan, 2002). There are many ways to get rid of this pests, one way is by physical control using a light intensity-based trap. Desa Karangwangun, Kecamatan Babakan, Cirebon, Jawa Barat has already used this method, but their trap is still very simple. Government’s regulation through Balai Penelitian Tanaman Sayuran also focusing to the improvement of the light trap using solar panels for its energy source. This product, unfortunately, has some security issues that we’re trying to solve. Results of this research hopefully would help the government and red onion farmers to use a light trap which is suitable with the needs, not forget to mention the security issues. text |
