Aside from producing accurate map, it has to be cost effective and efficient for extensive mapped area as well. This study is focused on the extensive land coverage Tlogowaru, Tuban Regency, East Java and will target clay minerals as raw materials for many purposes, e.g. cement, art. The method used is remote sensing; aerial photographs and Advanced Spaceborne Thermal Emission and Reflection Radiometer (ASTER) data. Aerial photograph data provide orthomosaic photos to differ agricultural land, mining land, vegetation, water, housing, and land maturation areas. This classification was used to mask the ASTER data, and was accurate to determine the unsuitable areas for further processing. Spectral Angle Mapper (SAM) and band math methods were then applied to ASTER to obtain all possible mineral occurrences in the study area. XRD and reflectance analysis were conducted towards the chosen soil samples and resulted in detection of kaolinite group (kaolinite and nacrite), illite group, and carbonate group (calcite and dolomite) minerals, which tend to concentrate in the northern area, southern area, and distributed throughout the whole area respectively. SAM analysis combined with those results shows there are kaolinite, nacrite, illite, calcite, and dolomite minerals, while band math analysis shows similar results of kaolinite, illite, and carbonate minerals. This verification confirms that the integrated results of soil sampling, aerial photography, as well as SAM and band math method on ASTER data are nonetheless coherent. text
