Community needs for water and electricity can be categorized into primary needs which are also increasing. To meet the needs of water and electricity, renewable energy sources can be utilized, one of which is water. Water can be used to irrigate the irrigation area, sources of raw water, and generate electricity with construction of the dam. Simply, dams utilize excess water during the rainy season by accommodating it to help with water shortages in the dry season.

Way Ela Dam is located on Way Ela River, Negeri Lima Village, Leihitu District, Ambon Island with a watershed area of 10,67 km2. Dams with 88 meters height has a function to withstand the flow of the river and accommodate it until it is finally flowed to the location in need. This Way Ela Dam has a storage volume of about 13,8 million m3 with an area of 53,49 hectares in a +226 m elevation above sea level. Way Ela Dam has 50% dependable discharge of 0,38 m3/s, the discharge is used for raw water sources and flowed through turbines so that electricity is generated to serves Negeri Lima Village and surrounding areas. The flood discharge of PMF-years return period is 307,57 m3/s.

Besides the main dam, another important component is the spillway to drain water that exceeds the storage capacity. Mercu spillway is designed with ogee shape and design discharge used in planning is debit of PMF result of routing that is 308 m3/s starting at dam in normal water level condition. The width of the mercu design is 30 m with a height of water about 3 m above the mercu. The budget plan cost required for the construction of Way ELa Dam is about 3,17 Trillion Rupiah.

text
