Overvoltage in electrical power system may be produced either due to lightning stroke or switching, where during that process an impuls current of several to tenth of kiloamperes, having extremely high risetime, may be produced. There are several methods for impuls current measurement, one of which is by using shunt resistance. This study consists of development of a shunt resistance prototype for such measurement. The ohmic value of the resistance is, by design calculation, 1 (one) mili-ohm.</p> <br />
The prototype has then been tested. The ohmic value has been measured by a normal dc-ohmmeter, while the impedance value for high sloped impuls current been tested by using two kind of impuls current generators. The first one is a generator, whose components values are known (in the current study named GAL), and the second one is a manufactures-calibrated generator type NSG 587 from Schaffner (called GAIT). The testing results has indicated in general a rather good performance of the shunt resistance. As expected, there is a difference of the dc-resistance value to the impedance value for impuls current. This is theoretically due to the inductive component (L) of the shunt resistance, where the factor col, of the shunt impedance become important.. |
