Description
Summary:The idea of this project came from author’s interest in ecological phenomenon and disaster caused by the excessive usage of plastic. Author sees how the material has been recognized as today’s age marker. In recent decades, plastic waste had accumulated in a rather terrifying amount. This is primarily caused by the time taken to fully degrade plastic which is close to never, in contrast to how quick it gets disposed. Plastic is regarded as one of the key factor to the formation of Anthropocene, a relatively new term to describe how human activities on global scale have a massive impact on the ecosystem.

Geological scientists have speculated that in the future plastic could be geologically transformed into rocks, even fossilized, thus becoming an age marker of the current time just like how prehistoric fossils are seen today. Author wanted to visually represent the scientists’ speculation in her artwork using medium close enough to the formation of rock: clay. Through mimetic method, author tries to recreate one of the phenomena that embodies the term Anthropocene.
