Description
Summary:Recently, there is an increasing number of research related to coopetition.

Coopetition promises a lot of benefit such as increasing fim’s innovation and

performance. On the other hand, coopetitive relationship is vulnerable to tension

that could reduce the effectiveness of firm decision making process, even could lead

to termination of relationship. However, research with regards to tension on

coopetition is still lacking. In particular, research addresing tension on precoopetitive

situation is still rare. Pre-coopetitive situation is regarded as important

as it decides whether firm would continue the relationship or not. Using qualitative

approach and drama theory as a tool, this research aim to 1) understand interaction

occured during pre-coopetitive situation 2) identifying tension occur during precoopetitive

situation and 3) identifying tension management mechanism on precoopetitive

situation. KPBS Pangalengan and KPSBU Lembang interaction on the

establishment of Konsorsium Koperasi Skala Besar (KKSB) Jawa Barat would be

the setting of pre-coopetitive situation of the study.

Using drama theory, collaborative and competitive interaction within KKSB

formation was captured. The findings showed that tension occur on the competitive

and cooperative domain on the pre-coopetition context. Tension on competitive

domain is indicated by persuassion dilemma between KPBS Pangalengan and

KPSBU Lembang as a result of divergent economic interest. Meanwhile, tension

on cooperative domain is indicated by trust dilemma between KPSBU Lembang

and other cooperatives as a result of distrust. The finding also showed relational

aspect and coopetitive experience serves as a dominant tension management.

Coopetitive experience and trust reduce the tension felt by the engaged parties.
