Summary:The main purpose of radiotherapy is to deliver maximum doses to the target volume (PTV) and minimum doses on the surrounding healthy tissue or organ at risk (OAR). Development of radiotherapy planning techniques continuous to achieve this goal, such as 3-dimensional conformal radiation therapy (3DCRT) and intensity modulated radiation therapy (IMRT). Radiotherapy planning on 15 cancer patients, 7 cases of lung cancer with planning target volume (PTV) in the range 175.1 cc - 875, 5 cc and 8 cases of brain cancer with PTV range 148.5 cc - 841.2 cc made at TPS (treatment planning system)Eclipse Varian Medical System using 3DCRT and IMRT techniques. This study aims to determine differences in planning results of 3DCRT and IMRT techniques as well as the effect of target volume on the quality of radiotherapy planning using both techniques. Evaluation was performed using dosimetry and radiobiology analysis. The results showed that IMRT technique gave higher doses, conformity, and homogeneity to PTV and reduced the risk of OAR (organ at risk) compared to planning using 3DCRT technique for both lung and brain cancer. The effect of volume taregt PTV on planning’s quality was determined by statistic test regression, results showed that the volume target PTV had no significant effect on the quality of the planning’s radiotherapy using using either 3DCRT technique or IMRT technique.
