THE EFFECT OF VOLUME TARGET ON QUALITY OF RADIOTHERAPY TREATMENT PLANNING USING 3D CONFORMAL RADIOTHERAPY AND INTENSITY MODULATED RADIOTHERAPY TECHNIQUES
The main purpose of radiotherapy is to deliver maximum doses to the target volume (PTV) and minimum doses on the surrounding healthy tissue or organ at risk (OAR). Development of radiotherapy planning techniques continuous to achieve this goal, such as 3-dimensional conformal radiation therapy (3DCR...

This study aims to determine differences in planning results of 3DCRT and IMRT techniques as well as the effect of target volume on the quality of radiotherapy planning using both techniques. Evaluation was performed using dosimetry and radiobiology analysis. The results showed that IMRT technique gave higher doses, conformity, and homogeneity to PTV and reduced the risk of OAR (organ at risk) compared to planning using 3DCRT technique for both lung and brain cancer. The effect of volume taregt PTV on planning’s quality was determined by statistic test regression, results showed that the volume target PTV had no significant effect on the quality of the planning’s radiotherapy using using either 3DCRT technique or IMRT technique. text |
