Summary: | Garlic (Allium sativum) are having its own pharmacological activity. Garlic extract contained secondary

metabolite such as flavonoid, saponin and steroid/tripernoid. Garlic, traditionally used to treat infections,

colds, diabetes, heart disease and a host of other disorders. Clinically, it has been evaluated for lowering

blood pressure, cholesterols and glucose concentrations, as well as for the prevention of cancer. The

objective of this research is to find the best formulation for the preparation of capsules by using garlic

powder and garlic extract. This research also conducted to determine the best excipients for the capsules

based on the stability result. Steps of this research include preparation of garlic powder and garlic extract,

standardization of the garlic powder and garlic extract, photochemistry screening, formulation and

product evaluation using quantitative and semi-quantitative method. Garlic powder has normal density

of 0.70g/ml, compressed density of 0.98g/ml, 2.76% moisture content, 62.50% water soluble content and

10.00% ethanol soluble content. From the best evaluation of the product, capsules that was containing

garlic extract and avicel as the filler provide the best results of its stability. The chromatogram pattern of

the product showing that the active compound of garlic extract is still obtained and chromatogram pattern

is similar to the first week of the chromatogram pattern. The compressibility (K %), compression level (T

%) and flow test (A) provided very good properties in each capsule. |
