Description
Summary:Systemic lupus erythematosus (lupus) is an autoimmune disease whose sufferers continue to increase

today. Treatment management for the lupus patient is aims to improve the quality of life of the

patient. The quality of life of lupus pastient is largely depend on the adherence in taking the drug.

This study aims to analyze the factors that influence patient adherence. Lupus patients with or without

organ involvement and receiving therapy for 24 weeks or more are the subjects in this study. This

study was conducted with a cross-sectional method using the MMAS-8 and the Taking Medication

Adherence Determinants (TMAD) of lupus patients questionnaires with additional interviews of

patient who under go treatment at rheumatology polyclinic RSUP Dr. Hasan Sadikin Bandung during

April - June 2018. Based on the MMAS-8 questionnaire which was fill out by 156 patients show that

18% with a high adherence, 40% moderate adherence and 42% low adherence. From the 6

characteristic factors (i.e. age, sex, occupation, education, frequency of treatment and length of

treatment) only age is correlated significantly (p = 0.03) with the adherence of the patient. From the

14 factors with 103 variables in the TMAD questionnaire studied, there were 7 variables from 7 factors

that influences significantly patient adherence, i.e. self-control (0.005), memory (0.000), knowledge

of disease (0.027), drug supply ( 0.052), physical properties of drugs (0.02), dispensation (0.033), and

empathy (0.04) variables. Based on the results, patients should improve self-control, memory, and

knowledge about the disease; while the hospital still has to increase drug availability and use the

products that are physically acceptable by the patients; while Doctor have to increase competence

and patient care, and increase medical information completely.
