Summary: | Recently, many pavements have ultimately failed because of increasing traffic load or finished their service life. Routine maintenance or implementing overlay is some of the method for improving the road surface condition. In overlay, tack coat is usually used to insure bonding between surface layer being paved and the overlaying course. But the bonding strength of the tack coat layer haven't being measured yet, because of the apparatus and standard have not available yet, This research goal is designing an apparatus to measure the tack coat bonding based on shear strength between pavement layers. In this research, it was tried some comparative variation in proportion between asphalt and kerosene, and also the amount of tack coat sprayed on the pavement layer. Modified Marshall apparatus is used to measure the shear strength between pavement layers which bonded with tack coat. The results show that maximum bonding strength occur in tack coat with proportion between asphalt and kerosene at 7/3 with sprayed quantity 0,3 L/m2. |
