Summary: | Microbial Enhanced Oil Recovery (MEOR) is a method to enhanced the oil production using microorgism activity. Microbial culture could synthesize a large variety of biochemical products from crude oil constituents as long as the essential nutrients and proper environmental condition are provided. Microbial activities are able to produce many kinds of bioproduct (gas, acid, solvent, biosurfactants, and biopolymer) that hopefully could enhanced the oil recovery to be produced. MEOR is classified as the alternative method for tertiary recovery phase in producing oil, which target of oils are could not be produced with the conventional method anymore because the oil trapped in a pore (residual oil).
The focus point of this study is the nutrients injection which considered as one of the main factor to increase the indigeneous microbial growth. The following steps of method had been used by author to do this study, which are 1) inject the nutrients into the artificial core with the same property as the X well in Z field, then 2) treat the core with soaking in imbibition process, and the last one 3) is flooding the core to sweep the oil production from the core. These scheme of method are designed to simulate the injection process in field implementation. The nutrients that involved in this study are considered to be the optimum formulation for this X well. The nutrient’s composisition are consist of 7.16% w/v molasses, 0.3% w/v of (NH4)2HPO4, and 0.26% w/v NPK.
The limitation of this study is to observe the effect of soaking time duration on oil recovery enhancement. Soaking time in MEOR should be referred to the time where the optimum microbial growth is reached, but in the real field application sometimes it could not be accomplished because of the limitation of soaking time duration. This limitation was made in order to prevent the financial loss because of the production stopped while soaking was running. Thus in this study, the sensitivity of soaking time in imbibition process would be performed with objective of optimum increasing oil recovery. The variation of soaking time duration are 7 days and 14 days which refer to the maximum duration interval of most of the field application in Indonesia. The result indicate that the optimum duration of soaking time is 7 days, and the addition of nutrition give the most significant effect of the oil recovery compare to the base condition using brine.. |
