Summary: |
Intra-Operative Radiation Therapy (IORT) is a radiation therapy which is performed directly during surgery. This technique delivers a high dose of electron radiation in a single exposure by mobile technology of linac. This study focuses on modelling IORT technique for conventional Linac by using Monte Carlo EGSnrc code. The simulation consist of : (1) modelling the head accelerator for 10 MeV electron beam without the applicator by using BEAMnrc, (2) modelling the applicator for IORT purpose with PMMA materials, 0.5 cm of thickness and 10 cm of diameter, and SSD 100 cm and 80 cm with field size 4, 6, 8, and 10 cm (3) simulated 10 MeV electron beam in a water panthom with the size 40 cm x 40 cm x 40 cm. The simulation using BEAMnrc shows that there was a bremsstrahlung contamination at energy spectrum 0.5 MeV, and the electrons beam scattered by 10 degrees. The result of simulation using DOSXYZnrc has an excellent dose distribution with 5 cm maximum depth, ≤ 3% of flatness dose profile, and the size of penumbra is about 12 mm - 14 mm particularly (within the tolerance limits of permitted).
|
