BUMDes are required to serve the needs of the community, and to open wide access to community with regard to the involvement in management and supervision. On the other hand, there is pressure from the community that BUMDes be managed professionally and transparently in order to bring huge profits. Therefore, there needs to be cooperation between the parties running the BUMDes, especially the BUMDes Managers and Village Members. The purpose of this study is to analyze social capital in the management of village-owned enterprises which can improve the state of village economy. This study uses a qualitative approach and case study method, and applies content analysis to the results of interviews, observation and document review. <br /> <br /> The result of the analysis shows that the process of establishing BUMDes can influence cooperation in managing BUMDes, especially in terms of similarity in the direction of development. With regard to the relationship between the conditions of social capital in the institution and the performance of BUMDes, there are several factors affecting it. They include the initiative of the community in the formation of BUMDes, which must be followed by the agreement from all village members to gain the trust of the entire community, the need for equality between stakeholders, the selection of business units based on the problems experienced by the community, the leadership factor influencing the condition of social capital, and the human resources which understand business development in society. BUMDes is not only a social institution for community empowerment, but also an economic institution that functions to improve the state of village economy. <br /> <br /> Keywords: BUMDes, Social Capital, social institutions, economic institutions <br /> text
