The <br /> <br /> purpose of this study was to formulate extract of safflower (Carthamus tinctorius <br /> <br /> L.) in the form of proniosome hair tonic to increase penetration active substances <br /> <br /> into the hair follicles. Proniosom preparation using the Slurry Method technique. <br /> <br /> Formula optimization using variations of maltodextrin concentration of (a) 50 <br /> <br /> mg, (b) 100 mg, (c) 150 mg, (d) 200 mg, variations in extract concentration (a) 80 <br /> <br /> mg, (b) 90 mg and (c) 100 mg with of a span 60 and cholesterol in ratio 1:1 in <br /> <br /> 250 μMol. The results showed that the Hydroxysafflor yellow A content in <br /> <br /> safflower ethanol extract was 24.27% ± 0.63. The best formula uses maltodextrin <br /> <br /> content of 200 mg, with total lipids (span 60 & cholesterol) of 1:1 with a particle <br /> <br /> size of 336,6±24,0 nm, polydispersity index of 0,336±0,06, and percent <br /> <br /> encapsulation efficiency of 98,146±0,039. Analysis using the Transmission <br /> <br /> Electron Microscopy (TEM) indicate that proniosomes was spherical. <br /> <br /> Proniosomes are developed in hair tonic preparations using glycerin carriers. <br /> <br /> Stability test showed that there were significant change of vesicle size (P <0.05) <br /> <br /> until the 7th day at 25°C and 11th day at 40°C, polydispersity index was stable at <br /> <br /> 25°C and 40°C until 14 days. Irritation test showed that proniosom hair tonic <br /> <br /> preparations of safflower extract (Carthamus tinctorius L.) did not irritate the <br /> <br /> skin with a primary irritation index of 0.Proniosom hair tonic activity test for 14 <br /> <br /> obtained data on the increase in hair length in the test area was 30-36% longer <br /> <br /> than the control (P <0.05), hair weights 4x more than the group without <br /> <br /> treatment.
