This research aims to study the <br /> <br /> responsible compounds which are able to cause itchy sensation from the Colocasia <br /> <br /> plant. This research was begun by microscopically observing the calcium oxalate <br /> <br /> crystals in the form of rafidhe from crude drug, by eliminating the itchy compounds, <br /> <br /> and by observing the electroforegram pattern of SDS PAGE. The TLC pattern of the <br /> <br /> extracts were observed by using various spraying reagents, followed by fractionation <br /> <br /> and isolation of the compounds. Based on microscopic identification showed that <br /> <br /> rapidhe of crystals oxalate was found in all three Colocasia genus. The itchy compound <br /> <br /> on the Colocasia genus can be removed by immersion using 1% sodium bicarbonate <br /> <br /> and extraction by ethanol 93%. The compound has characteristic: It is not visible under <br /> <br /> UV light at λ254 nm and UV light at λ366 nm, negative to phenol reagent but showed <br /> <br /> positive result with the reagent of ninhydrin.
