Description
Summary:ABC is one of expanding tire manufacturers located in Indonesia. With large opportunity in tire market and access to raw material in Indonesia, ABC has expanding business. Its production capacity is increasing continuously to meet tire market demand. Enormous production capacity surely needs to be utilized effectively so that its products can be absorbed by market. Right product for right consumer is the key. Right product is generated in New Tire Development Project (NTDP) stage before entering mass production. This thesis will be focused on improving current NTDP process at PT ABC

The identified issue in the project is its production trial ineffectiveness. There are three aspects that lead to this ineffectiveness. First is excessive number of production trial which directly impact to longer project lead time and higher cost. Second is lack of project monitoring by chief engineer (CE). The effect is action cannot be quickly taken for problem arisen because CE late to found the problem or abnormalities. Third is small utilization of existing tire components. Small utilization means that there will always new component for new tire although tire with same size is already developed before. This phenomenon in the future will make production shop floor very complicated due to number of components they must handle.

The root causes are lack of engineer skill, failure analysis is not considering factor other than tire construction, manual paper based project tracking, and previous project development history is not stored centrally.

Proposed business solutions are skill mapping and training for engineer, modify trial production flow process, and utilization of project tracking and product data management platform
