Summary: | Abstract: The application of non surgical diagnostic procedure such as
fluoroscopy and interventional cardiology produce high radiation dose to patient
and the medical staff as well. It is important to monitor the condition of
occupational environment due to ionizing radiation exposure in order to protect
the worker from the long-term effect due to radiation exposure. The monitoring of
direct effect to organism due to ionizing radiation exposure is still seldom to be
observed. This research is conducted to evaluate the occupational environment
condition of the hospital that is exposed by ionizing radiation, using Allium
cepa as bio-indicator. This research is carried out in RSUP dr. Hasan Sadikin
Bandung in the four (4) different sites selected, examination and operator room in
interventional cardiology and fluoroscopy procedure, operator room in CT-Scan
and radiotherapy procedure. The effects observed on the A. cepa are mitotic index
and chromosome aberration. The calculation result of radiation dose to all
operator room in the four study site remained below the threshold value, that is
20 mSv/year, as well as the mean value of the mitotic index and chromosome
aberration that can be said is not toxic to A. cepa compare to the negative control
group. While the accumulation dose of radiation in interventional cardiology
examination room is above the threshold, it is in accordance with the value of
mitotic index and chromosome aberration resulted. Based on the dose-response
curve, the relationship between accumulated dose and the percentage of mitotic
index as well as chromosome aberration is logarithmic, with high determination
value (R2) respectively 0.862 and 0.933. |
