Summary: | Increasing of hospital activity is accompanied by increasing in generation of waste produced. A kind of hospital waste which is classified as hazardous waste is an infectious waste where this waste contains pathogenic organisms and spreads diseases that are harmful to environment. In order to minimize the harmful effects of infectious waste, appropriate medical waste management activities must be carried out. The upstream management of medical waste is by measuring waste generation. This study aims to analyze the factors that influence infectious waste generation in four hospitals in Bandung and Cimahi. The method used is a survey method. The data sampling activities included infectious waste generation measurements, distribution of medical staff and hospital manajemen questionnaires as well as some hospital secondary data. The data are analyzed by ANOVA and Stepwise Regression using SPSS Statistic Software and descriptive analysis. The results showed that each hospital has different factors that influence infectious waste generation. Hospital A has significance (sig <0.05) on the type of treatment room, bed occupancy rate, number of patients and medical staff in several treatment units towards its infectious waste generation. Factors that influence infectious waste generation in hospital B, C and D significantly include the number of patients and the number of medical staff for several treatment units in these hospitals. Based on the results of the significance of factors for infectious waste generation, also obtained the results of descriptive analysis that is still related to these significant factors and also influence infectious waste management. The results showed that the attitudes, roles and frequency of waste management training by medical staff affected infectious waste management in each hospital. On the oother hand from the hospital management, management has a high role in managing infectious waste in each hospital. Nevertheless the hospital management is considered to need to maximize the implementation of infectious waste management regulations as a form of support and adherence to the regulations set. |
