DETERMINATION METALS IN PM2, 5 USING X-RAY SPECTROSCOPY (XRF) AND GRAPHITE FURNACES ATOMIC ABSORPTION SPECTROMETRY (GFAAS)
The purpose of this study was to evaluate the accuracy and precision of the determination of the elements (Al, As, Ca, Cu, Cr, Fe, K, Mg, Mn, Ni, Pb, S, Si, Ti, V and Zn) in the particulate air PM2,5 captured by nucleopore polycarbonate filter using the measurement techniques of X-ray fluorescence...

Summary: | The purpose of this study was to evaluate the accuracy and precision of the determination of the elements (Al, As, Ca, Cu, Cr, Fe, K, Mg, Mn, Ni, Pb, S, Si, Ti, V and Zn) in the particulate air PM2,5 captured by nucleopore polycarbonate filter using the measurement techniques of X-ray fluorescence (XRF). Cr, Cu, Ni and Pb results were compared using Atomic Absorption Spectrometry - Graphite furnace (GFAAS) technique. The accuracy check of XRF measurements was performed using SRM 2738 and among most of the elements listed in the certificate give recovery value in 100% ± 10% range. Ten samples of PM2, 5 from Serpong area which have been captured by nucleopore polycarbonate filter were measured using XRF method with four replications and then relative standard deviation was calculated to get the repeatabilty of determination using XRF. 10 samples of PM2,5 from Serpong area as measured by XRF technique with four repetitions has shown good repeatability. Subsequently the filters digested and dissolved, then measured with GFAAS. The comparison of GFAAS and XRF results were not statistically significantly different. GFAAS test results were correlated with the corresponding XRF analytical signal in order to obtain a new calibration curve for the XRF method. Accuracy check of the new calibration curve from GFAAS was performed using SRM 2738 and the elements of Cr, Cu, Ni and Pb give 100% ± 10% recovery value. |
