Summary:Fertilizer has an important part in agricultural and plantation sector especially in agricultural country like Indonesia. In production process, fertilizer industries in Bontang, East Kalimantan use water in gross amount which can reach 457.200 m3/day for each plant. The wastewater sources are shut down of plant, turn around of plant and pump drains. Ammonia, BOD and COD are the major components from the wastewater so that wastewater requires being treat specifically before comes in to environment or the body stream. Processing intended to reduce loads that received by the body stream, meanwhile that body stream has limited capacity of self-purification. Wastewater treatment expansion for this fertilizer industry in Bontang, East Kalimantan needed because the effectiveness and capacities of this wastewater treatment is not suit enough for industrial capacities in this present day. This expansion planned to have 5 years period of service. Based on the wastewater characteristic hence the expand alternative of this wastewater treatment are Nitrification/Denitrification biological process and combination of Ammonia Stripper-Aerated Pond. The recommend expand alternative to be applied is combination of Ammonia Stripper- Aerated Pond. The selection based on the technical consideration using Coefficient of Important Factor method and economic consideration based on cost analysis for each alternative. The units on this WWTP consist of: Equalization Basin, pH Adjustment Tank, Ammonia Stripper, Neutralization Tank, Effluent Tank, Aerated Pond, and Sedimentation Pond. The total cost of this WWTP project based on the cost analysis is about 13 billion Rupiahs.
