Description
Summary:E-learning implementation can only be used maximally with strong commitment from teachers and students. Teachers, who are generally older than students, often have difficulty in operating digital tools and resources that are part of e-learning. Usability refinement is important to improve teachers’ performance on digital devices. Usability is generally regarded as ensuring that interactive products are easy to learn, effective to use, and enjoyable from the user’s perspective (Rogers, et al., 2015). Usability is also important for students because it can have a large impact on learning using e-learning platforms. Interaction design using user-centered design approach is done to obtain an online learning site with good usability and to adjust with teacher and student needs. The interaction design results were then tested on the object of research, the teachers and students of SMP Negeri 49 Bandung. This design method is carried out in five stages: 1) collecting data with questionnaire and interview; 2) analysis of the context of use that produces persona, user task, user environment, and list of user requirements; 3) design that produces use case diagram, information architecture, and wireframe; 4) implementation that produces low-fidelity prototype (mock-up) and mid-fidelity prototype (website), as well a testing using the mid-fidelity prototype that has been developed; 5) evaluation with usability testing. Usability testing results showed that the interaction design that has been developed has a quite good usability. Learnability is one of the usability components that being a weakness of current interaction design. Improvements that focusing on the learnability are needed to increase the interaction design usability.
