Summary: | Transportation systems have an important role in a manufacturing company, especially to distribute products to consumers. It is uncommon to find transportation cost takes more or less 10% of product total cost. There are several aspects that can be optimized in the transportation system, such as vehicle routing, scheduling, and resource allocation. But most research focuses on finding the best routes, scheduling, and inventory policies without resolving the problems of the resources needed. This research will develop a model to optimize resource needs.
The model was developed based on the mathematical model made by Tayfur in 2008. This MILP model can accommodate various types of products, internal and rental trucks, and consumers who have unique travel times. The model can consider the possibility of using a truck that has returned after delivering. In addition the model can also consider the results of the models that have been run before, so the model can be used continuously without the need to change a lot of data. To make it possible, the model must be integrated with a database.
To complement the model, a user interface prototype is designed in this research. In addition to its main function, which is to input the data, interface prototype can also run the model to facilitate the user.
