Tests were carried out on sleep duration, sleep latency, sleep efficiency, sleep cycle, sedation rating scale and behavior, in rats previously induced with 100mg /kgketamine which were then given extract, vehicle or reference drug. The results showed that the extract had no effect on sleep duration, but significantly affected sleep latency, sleep efficiency, sleep cycle, sedation rating scale and motor activity. All of doses of extract enhanced sleep latency, while on sleep efficiency the doses of 25, 100, and 200mg /kg enhanced this parameter. The doses of 25, 100 and 200 mg/kg stabilized sleep cycle which is comparable to diazepam. In was further found that 25mg /kg and 100mg /kg extract increased sedation rating scale. Finally, it was observed that 200mg /kg extract produced locomotor decrease. Overall, results of this study show that ethanol extract of cape jasmine flowers improve sleep quality in rat model with the dose of 25mg /kg gave a signifficant effect. text |
