Summary: | Reading fairy tales or fantasy stories and watching Disney animated films is a hobby of young children in general. An interesting and exciting story, a character that has good values and if it's displayed in animation, like in Disney animated films, it can spur motivation and inspiration in a child. The same thing happened to anime and manga that are usually favored by children. Japanese manga and anime have an interesting stories and iconic visuals. Unwittingly this is some popular culture that a child first know of. Video game also has become one of the popular cultures that interest many people, from children to adult. Video games have many genres and visual styles, but one genre is inspired by fairy tales, visually and conceptually, commonly called MMORPG.
Inspired by this and personal problems, the author made a work titled "Alter Ego". The author tries to present a visualization of phenomena in contemporary popular culture, namely video games, which are inspired by anime, manga and Disney animation from the author's point of view as a means of understanding oneself. "Alter Ego" is made using digital drawing techniques, to combine the concept of innovation in technology, with visualization consisting of characters in the video game, which the author plays, in the style of cartoons (or anime) with bold colors, thick lines, and two dimensions . This work was printed using digital printing techniques into medium named lenticular lens sheets with transformation effects.
From this artwork, "Alter ego”, the author gets a sense of contentment because the author has made her own self realization and revea; the other side of the author personality (Alter ego) in the artwork, the author also saw how the influences of stories and visuals that the author fancied in childhood (fairy tales, disney animations, anime and manga) continued to carry on until now. This arworkwork is also expected to show the phenomena of contemporary popular culture, such as anime, manga and video games, which occur today and are very close to society. |
